Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (fiction)
While I usually drop things once they get popular,
these books are too much fun. To date, there are three, and I have
read them all twice.
Redwall by Brian Jacques. (fiction) Another
series (though I read only the first) that is an amusing mix of Wind
in the Willows and Tolkein. Various woodland creatures inhabit
the abbey, and must defend against a vicious rat and his mob of pirate
rodents.
Anything by Kevin Henkes, creator of Lily
and her Purple Plastic Purse and Chrysanthemum,
two of the cutest little mice ever drawn. Good-natured storytelling
and great art.
Getting to know the World's Great Artists
series by Mike Venezia
Excellent for children (and adults who like their
writing simple). This is a fun way to enjoy art. From the standards
like Monet to my favorites like Edward Hopper, Frida Kahlo, and Andy
Warhol. |
